Strengths:
Prototypical size for a pass-catching tight end. Adequate speed for the position. Has experience lining up at wide receiver. Great hands; catches the ball away from his body and rarely drops an easy pass. Becomes a downhill runner with the ball in his hands; has the strength to run over defenders. Decent blocking ability.
Weaknesses:
Missed entire 2009 season after undergoing back surgery. Not as dominant of a blocker as he could be given his size.
Comments:
Gronkowski was a legitimate 1st-round prospect before missing the entire 2009 season. Even so, if healthy, he could sneak into the late 1st round. In an era where the elite pass-catching tight end such as Jermaine Gresham are starting to just look like oversized receivers, Gronkowski has a legitimate body of a tight end and can contribute in all facets of the game.
