Russell Okung OT Oklahoma State #76

Ht: 6'5
Wt: 302

Strengths:
Ideal height and overall strength for the position. Decent athleticism for a lineman. Very fundamentally sound; great footwork. Gets into position quickly off the snap. An elite pass blocker. Has the athleticism/speed to get to the second level of defenders. A very smart player. Hard worker and a team leader.
Weaknesses:
Hasn't played a pro-style offense; Oklahoma State's option-based offense hasn't given him the necessary experience in a NFL-style blocking scheme. More of a finesse blocker than a grind-it-out type which may not appeal to some teams.
Comments:
Okung was a dominant collegiate offensive lineman but there are some concerns about his ability to take his game to the next level. Oklahoma State runs a very specialized offensive scheme - typically a 50/50 split between pass plays and an option-based rushing attack. As a result, Okung has very little experience in the straight-ahead rushing attack that most NFL teams feature. He looks like an NFL-ready pass protector, but there may be some growing pains as a run blocker. He is a top-flight talent, but not a can't-miss prospect.
