Brandon Pettigrew TE Oklahoma State #87

Ht: 6'5
Wt: 257

Strengths:
Ideal size for a tight end. Elite strength for the position. Blocking skills are polished, which is rare for tight end these days, especially one with Pettigrew's playmaking abilities. Absolutely enormous hands. Very reliable as a receiver. Runs good routes and is able to find the soft spot in zone defenses. The type of reliable tight end that quarterbacks love because he'll do all the small things right to make their job easier.
Weaknesses:
Doesn't have elite speed; won't stretch the field like many pass-catching tight ends are able to these days. Suffered an ankle injury in 2008 which caused him to miss 3 games and lingered all season. Fairly serious character concerns - arrested on a felony charge of assault and battery of a police officer in Jan. 2008.
Comments:
Pettigrew isn't in the class of recent pass-catching tight end prospects such as Vernon Davis or Kellen Winslow, but he is worthy of a first round pick based on his all-around ability as a receiver and a blocker. He reminds me of the Eagles' L.J. Smith, with perhaps more upside as a receiver. Teams will have to seriously investigate his 2008 felony assault charge before spending 1st-round money on him.
