Rolando McClain ILB Alabama #25

Ht: 6'4
Wt: 256

Strengths:
Elite size for the inside linebacker position. A very instinctive football player. The leader of Alabama's defense the past two season. Coaches rave about his work ethic. An elite defender against the run.
Weaknesses:
Lacks ideal speed; may struggle to stay with some tight ends and running backs in coverage. Comes from a 3-4 scheme at Alabama where he benefited from playing behind Terrence Cody; may cause some teams to wonder if his college success was a product of playing in an elite college system.
Comments:
The most important trait an inside linebacker can have is good instincts. A smart, instinctive inside linebacker can overcome a lack of raw physical ability more so than any other position on the field. I liken the criticisms of McClain's lack of speed to those directed as James Laurinaitis last year. I gave Laurinaitis a top-10 grade last season despite him being a consensus 2nd-round player. He responded with a solid rookie year. McClain's instincts and work ethic will make him an elite player at the next level, regardless of where he gets drafted.
