Jerry Hughes OLB TCU #98

Ht: 6'2
Wt: 257

Strengths:
Elite athleticism; came to TCU as a running back. A dominant speed rusher on the outside. Very reliable tackler. Has the ability to play defensive end in a 4-3 or linebacker in a 3-4. Very quick and explosive off the snap. A very smart defender; quick to adjust. A team leader on and off the field.
Weaknesses:
Lacks ideal height. Straight-line speed is only marginal. Limited experience playing standing up. Doesn't have a wide range of pass-rush moves.
Comments:
Hughes doesn't have size, strength or speed to be a dominant player at the next level, but he has the skills to be a solid contributor in pass-rush situations. He likely isn't an every-down player, regardless of the system he winds up in, but he could become an impact player if he is put in a position where his weaknesses can masked by other's strengths. He could come off the board in the 2nd round, but will only be worth the selection if a team sees a very specific role for him. He should not be drafted with the expectations of developing into a three-down player.
