Clay Matthews OLB USC #47

Ht: 6'3
Wt: 246

Strengths:
Ideal size and overall strength. A reliable tackler. Very good athleticism. An above average pass rusher. Does a nice job getting low and dipping his shoulder to get around tackles and into the backfield.
Weaknesses:
Could be a one-year-wonder; he didn't look like much of a prospect until his senior year. Doesn't excel in any one area, but doesn't have a major weakness either. Some potential character concerns; created an anti-black facebook group titled "White Nation" which he, Brian Cushing and other USC football players joined.
Comments:
Father, Clay Matthews Jr, played linebacker for the Browns and Falcons. Grandfather, Clay Matthews Sr, played offensive and defensive line for the 49ers. Uncle, Bruce Matthews, played offensive line for the Oilers/Titans. Matthews walked on in 2004 and slowly worked his way up the Trojans depth chart. Entering his senior year he was a potential late round prospect at best, but a huge year propelled him up the draft boards. As a senior he looked more and more like his father, a 4-time Pro Bowler with the Browns in the 1980s.
