Joe Lefeged scouting report

Joe Lefeged S Rutgers
Ht: 6’0″

Wt: 210

Strengths:
Three-year starter who also saw significant playing time a freshman. High school linebacker who was converted to strong safety. A reliable tackler and a hard hitter. Extremely productive collegiate player. Experienced as kick returner.
Weaknesses:
Limited ability in coverage; looks stiff and lacks the speed to stay with more athletic tight ends. Doesn’t show great ball skills; only two career interceptions. Plays like an undersized linebacker more than a safety. Poor instincts in zone coverage; does not do a great job of reading the quarterback and getting into position to make plays.
Comments:
Lefeged had a great career at Rutgers, but his lack of coverage skills may limit his upside at the next level. His skill set will be viewed differently by each team. In some schemes his ability to contribute against the run will be valued, while other teams will shy away due to his lack of coverage skills. In the right system, he has the potential to develop into a quality starter.
