Drake Nevis scouting report

Drake Nevis DT LSU
Ht: 6’2″

Wt: 294

Strengths:
Explosive off the snap. Does a great job using his hands to disengage from blocks. Impressive weight-room strength. Decent speed and quickness; shows the ability to get into the backfield and make plays. An explosive hitter who can separate ball carriers from the football.
Weaknesses:
Undersized; played around 285 before bulking up prior to combine. Underachiever until senior year – only one year as a starter. Is he a one-year wonder motivated only by NFL money? Suffered a foot injury prior to Senior Bowl and pulled out of the game.
Comments:
Nevis has a ton of potential give his athleticism, but there are enough concerns that it should keep him in the 2nd or 3rd round. His size is the biggest question mark. He will struggle to hold up in the NFL if he tries to play around 285, which he did in college. If he can keep his current weigh on, however, will be remain as explosive? Another concern is his lack of production throughout his career. I’m always cautious about giving a high grade to player who failed to live up to expectations before making a significant jump in his senior year. Ultimately there enough concerns to keep Nevis out of the 1st round, but his high ceiling means he should still be a top 75 pick.
